A Beautiful Life Centered on Him
There’s a certain kind of moment that sneaks up on you. A moment when you’re walking down an ordinary sidewalk, or typing on a keyboard, and suddenly – bam – it’s as if the air changes. It’s the same air, sure, but now it’s charged with something bigger, something deeper. You feel alive, more alive than you ever thought possible. That’s what happens when you live for him.
Two simple verses – “Do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17) and “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength” (Mark 12:30) – are more than words on a page. They become a lens that changes how you see everything.
The other day I was on a walk. A regular old walk, with one foot in front of the other. I used to think of walking as just, well, walking. A way to get from here to there, or maybe to clear my head. But then I started walking with him in mind. I put my feet down on the pavement, not just to move, but for him. Every step, every sway of my arms, every breath, offered up like a prayer, like a love song. And suddenly, the walk wasn’t just a walk anymore. It was sacred. The air felt sweeter, the rhythm of my body more alive, and I felt connected. To him. To purpose. To love.
Even as I sit here typing these words, I’m hitting the keystrokes for him. Not for applause, not for validation, but for the simple joy of lovingly offering the littlest movements of my body back to the One who gave me the ability to do it in the first place. And oh man, does it change everything. There’s a joy that bubbles up, a kind of secret smile that won’t leave my face. It’s the kind of joy that no paycheck or gold star or pat on the back can match. Because when you’re doing it for him, out of love for him, it feels like it matters in a way nothing else does.
This way of living, all in, all for him, isn’t just fulfilling. It’s transforming. It’s the abundant life Jesus promised in John 10:10, the kind of life where peace isn’t just a concept, but a reality. It’s a life infused with joy and smothered in love regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in. There are moments when it feels like my soul is being transported to a different state entirely. A state of elation, of profound contentment. In those moments, tears come unbidden, a smile stretches across my face, and I can’t help but think: This is it. This is how I’m meant to live.
We live in a world that tells us fulfillment comes from accomplishments, the bigger, the better. But I’ve tasted something better. Achievements, even the grandest ones, can’t hold a candle to the purpose and significance that come from living every moment for him. It’s like I’ve tasted in the smallest sense what Paul described in Philippians 3:8: “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”
There’s something astonishingly beautiful about a life centered on Jesus. A life where the ordinary becomes extraordinary because when it’s all for him it brings the reality of his presence to mind. And, it’s his presence that changes everything. Even the most mundane of moments can be transformed into the most profound when we realize that the King of kings and the loving Savior of our souls is right there with us, wanting to connect. To know us more deeply and to become more deeply known. I count everything else as loss.
So here’s my invitation: try it. Try walking, working, living with him at the center of it all. Choose one moment today, big or small, and do it out of love for him, for his glory. Then watch what happens.
Thank you, Jesus, for this life. This abundant, beautiful, joy-filled life. There’s nothing like it. And it’s all because of you.
